Rose Corporation increases and improves industrial fabrication capacity

The Rose Corporation is a continuous improvement and process oriented company. This is a typical example of the type of heavy equipment we manufacture:

This is a base assembly for a large compressor. In order to be constructed to the extremely tight tolerances required by our customers, this equipment needs to be fabricated on a flat surface.  That’s the purpose of the 1.5 inch metal plate on the floor.  Over a span of 60 feet, the floor is level within 1/8th of an inch.

Recently we took advantage of a gap in production to increase our floor space capacity so we can handle more work and produce it more efficiently. Here are the floor plates that will be used to expand capacity:

Phase 1 is to set up a flat floor area on the west side of the middle bay to accommodate 4 weld stations. This area will be approx. 16’ x 70’

Phase 2 will be to set up the fitter floor plate area on the east side of the middle bay using the (6) 1-1/2” x 10’ x 30’ plates. The floor area will be 30’ x 60’ when completed. Both floors will be laser leveled to within 1/8” of flatness.

The area is marked off and measured with a laser level. Points on a grid are measured as to how much lower they are than the highest point on the grid. Then steel plate shims are stacked at each point on the grid to bring each point up to level:

A track cutter gives a perfectly square edge to each floor panel:

The floor plates have their edges finished before being put into place:

Then the floor plates are moved into place with a 15 ton crane:

One of our fitters levels the whole area with the metal plate shims:

Then the fitting area is laid out and shimmed:

Here is a photo of the finished fitting area. This will increase our industrial fabrication capacity and allow us to manufacture two regenerative thermal oxidizers at a time for a key customer:

Working on a flat, level floor will save countless hours of leveling, shimming and set-up times on jobs in the future.  This will help to open the door for new opportunities and allow us to be more competitive on larger projects that require a large foot print to build from.
